  • The Private Security Officer Selection and TrainingGuideline is not intended to cover all aspects of selectionand training for private security officers. It is intended to setforth minimum recommendations that can be used to assist in theselection and training of private security officers. The Guidelineis United States focused and is not intended to be an Internationaldocument; however, due to the global nature of many U.S.organizations, it is recommended that employers developcountry-specific processes where appropriate.

    Private security officer selection and training has been a topicof interest with much debate over the last 30 years. Variousstudies and research efforts have been undertaken to better definethe role of a private security officer and also provide neededinformation for adequate selection and training of suchofficers.


    The purpose of the Private Security Officer and TrainingGuideline is to provide recommended minimum qualifications in orderto improve the performance of private security officers and thequality of security services.
